Its not a GTi but its my GT now with a ding :-(
« on: 08 October 2009, 22:24 »
Thought I'd post these pictures of the (Dirty) car up.
Its the 2.0L GT TDi

I think this thing really flies so you guys are in for a treat when your GTi's arrive.

And a disaster shot of a ding in it already!!! I haven't even been anywhere apart from out runs and parked in my drive!! I'm really careful with my cars and only ever had a tiny ding in my previous Mazda in the 4 years I had it.  Yet this is after 2 days!! Does VW use thin metal or have I been unlucky?
Can this sort of ding be removed by the dent masters or whatever they are called?
Any recommendations for the Glasgow area or cost to repair.
I'm gutted.

Sorry about the duplicate post. Browser wouldn't allow me to post it originally.

nice pics!!

re: the dent, send your pic to one of the dentmaster folk and they can advise if they can fix or not.  it looks a little close to the side crease, but might be do-able.

Nice car but I wonder how these dings happen? Is it because some other car when opening their doors hit yours? Or stones on the highway? I see these dings in many of the cars in the Netherlands... and wonder how it happens...

I would guess some careless barsteward let their door go in the wind or something and its walloped the car.  Its too high up the body to be anything else.  Hence why its right on the crease.

You must be gutted mate

Another cardoor banged against it, or at that hightmore likely the handle of a supermarket trolley or baby buggy.

Paintless dent removal guy should be able to sort it easily enough, provided they can reach the area, which will probably be by taking out the boot trim as access from the rear light apertaure is blocked by the fuel filler.

I've seen this done by the end of an umbrella - woman did it to her BMW rushing to get out of the rain. Funny thing was, rain will dry off for free, a dent will cost £100+ to fix.

If Dentmaster need to get behind it to push it out, access may be difficult due to the strut tower and fuel filler neck. I don't have a Mk5 handy to check.

I have seen some bodywork places where they use a metal strut which is then stuck to the dent and then they pull it.. effectively taking the dent out without too much trouble.

Give this chap a ring http://www.refinish.ltd.uk/page2.html.  Based in Stirling and does all the minor bodywork stuff for the garages.

Nice car btw.  Cheers.
