Lights flickering
« on: 08 October 2009, 20:24 »
Hi all. Have searched the forum for the answer could not really find one. Mk 2 Golf 1.6. - At idle the lights flicker a little and the battery light comes on very faintly and then goes again but the slight flickering continues. Both headlights and interior lights flicker.

Any ideas

Thanks

Greg.

i brought the car last weekend, battery looks quite new, no idea about the alternator, whats the best way of checking them. I know i can check the voltage on the battery, how about the alternator?

overtightened/Loose belt, Voltage regulator...  my battery light flickers when idling after a drive, it gets worse when I turn the lights & radio off, I've been told it's the voltage reg.

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

I've seen this when the alternator bush pack isnt making good contact, if you look on the back of the alt you'll see its held on with 2 screws. pop this off and clean up all the contact surfaces.  If you look in the hole where it came out there are 2 metal prongs, you want the area they touch on the bush pack to be nice & clean. Also make sure the bushes have some meat left on them and are about the same length.
