Just dont understand why you keep saying that 8v clocks cant be used in a 16v because you are wrong!

8 and 16v clocks both work fine in either model although the 8v only go to 140mph (not 160!)...but vr one's don't correctly due to the lower rev's of the v6.

@Mikester, I'd put any new clocks to the mileage of the car, not engine. The car, chassis etc. has traveled that far, I'd stick a sticker on the door shut or something saying the mileage difference of the engine.

Maybe it's been clocked, maybe it's had new clocks. Check dash screws etc. and see if they are slightly chewed as if they have been removed. Surely pedal wear etc. will tell you right, or maybe the MOT guy made a mistake on that MOT, we're all imperfect.
Golf MK3 1.8 auto and I didn't pay a grand for the "priveledge", auto windows all round and a AC. Oh and I've got a luggage net you pricks!

Does that make my willy look bigger?

Oh yeah it's called Helda or something....

Drivers seat bolster is still in excellent condition (I know these usually wear around the 100k mark) as my friends 5 door GTi has done with 123k on the clocks. All the rubber covers on pedals still look fine, no excessive wear at all.
I have to say I was fooled completely by the mileage, as everything would suggest its only done around 90k. Seat belts still snap back into position relatively quickly.

The only thing that was suspicious was the fact it had an MFA stalk on the car yet the speedo didnt have the function to display that information, ie MPG, time, Oil temp etc I didn't know what this button was for till I came on here and asked.
I put it down to it possibly having a new indicator stalk as the old one snapped off. The replacement having this MFA button attached. I now know the clocks have been swapped instead.

With RAC not having found anything funny on National mileage register I bought the car.

The thing is when I come to sell the car and the buyer looks on VOSA as I have done they will know the mileage is fake. And I'll end up with someone banging my door down for their money back, As I would do.
And Im not dishonest. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, YET this f*kka got away with it.

Did you buy from a garage, also they may have changed the clocks for a genuine reason the fact they have no mfa confirms they are wrong as all GTI's have mfa as standard.

I feel for you mate, my GL was a Cat D write off but I didn't find this out until a year later, it has happened the year before I bought it but I wasn't told. Stupidly I didn't bother to do a check on the car, but I will for the future now. It's a shame when people can't just be honest about everything. Whoever sold it must of known something about the clocks being changed, regardless if it was a genuine reason or not.
