What is this as its leaking ???

As a new owner of a 1998 GT TDi I dont really know much about these cars, but,
Its leaving puddles of an oily substance on my nice clean driveway, there are
2 pipes coming out from the engine cover on the O/S (Drivers Side) into
a steel pot of some sort with a rim like a paint pot (sorry if my description
is crap and its too dark to take a pic) that has a few more pipes on top
with jubilee clips. The oil seems to be leaking from this - can anyone please tell me
what this item is ? Thanks

Its funny but it doesnt smell like Diesel......  but I trust you guys on here, will investigate
further in the daylight, thanks

you mean left, right?    

that is 100% the fuel filter then   

new one is approx £20 from your local dealer and is a 5 minute job to change

the thing with with green cap is your power steering reservoir

no worries.  Strange its leaking though    check the pipes haven't got any split or cracks in them
