Mine was the same as yours Drew and I hadn't done anything  :undecided:

Previous owner disconnected it? Or yours was one of the first years without dim-dip?

I explained to my dad what I was doing last night and he swore blind that his N reg VR6 didn't have this 'dayglo' resistor

So today we popped the bonnet on his VR to change the air filter box for a drilled one and had a good look for this resistor and it's non existant lol
Gone but not forgotten;

I had it on my N reg (96) Passat so just assumed it was still being fitted to all VW's. Guess they had dropped it on the Golf by then.

had the same thing on my old mk3 also.

Did not have this resistor on my 97 valver or my 96 vr so guess vw did away with it on the changeover mid 95.
