I think there is still some issues to overcome, when they are fitted. A few of the German posts are reporting that they get error messages or something when they are fitted, and are having to alter via VAGCOM.

I'm not sure if this sounds right, because I know nothing of VAGCOM but maybe someone could help on this?

I can believe that: when I tried to swap the front sidelight & rear numberplate bulbs for LEDs, I immediately got an error message on the MFD

LED's generally draw far less current than filament bulbs, so the computer interprets that as a blown bulb and tells you on the MFD. For sidelight retro fits like FroGTI tried, you can get LED bulbs fitted with a resistor (or if you don't mind splicing into your headlight loom a separate resistor). I'm guessing the LED tail lights cause a similar issue but VCDS allows you to adjust settings accordingly.

For the LED lights it seems impossible to get the original VW adaptor cables. I found mine on Kufatec. If you get error codes they sell a little dongle that fix that. (Still not for right hand drive thou)

I would imagine we won't get them as an option even on the GTi.

We may well get them on any anniversary (Edition 35) type GTi they produce though.

You can get them as an option in Sweden. Costs about 290 GBP if you get them at the factory. I paid 450 when I bought them as a spare part from VW.

When ordering my one of the dealers contacted VW and clarification was then requested from Germany so they went the whole hog to find out. The result is:
Rear LED lights are optional on GTI in germany etc BUT there are NO plans to release in the UK either as standard OR as an option.
Also it seems that VW are not going to fit to US cars either.

So basically if you're in the UK or the US you're NOT going to get LED lights on a GTI, even as an option.

However you never know it could change. Has anyone seen the light shapes on the polo, lenses look a lot like the LED ones lol.
