This last weekend I drove me, the wife, three kids (10, 8 and 3 weeks) to my mums for her birthday.  We had everything for the weekend including buggy, sizeable moses basket, breast pumps, cloths, kids toys, birthday presents etc in the MK6 with room to spare.

The only squeeze was the two booster seats in the rears with the babyseat in the middle, apart from that we were laughing.  Can't see why you're struggling there fella? I had an A4 Avant, you couldn't get any more in there......

I can get a folding wheelchair in the boot with the back seats still upright, and then a lot more on top of that.  Four adults in the car, with extra baggage going on top of the wheelchair.  In a pinch I'd take the parcel shelf out, but it hasn't come to that yet.

My colleague at work, one of the people who persuaded me to get a Golf, has a Mk V bought after her second child was born, and uses it every day ferrying the kids to school and childminder.  One child nearly seven and the other one four.  She has two child seats in the back and they seem to fit there quite easily.  She had that car when the younger one was still on wheels.

You know your own requirements of course, but it seems perfectly doable to me, and a shame to let such a good car go.

Rolfe.

The only reason she wants a 4x4 is because of the height which I can understand and no bigger than a Q5 so it is easier to park but still has enough room inside. I have looked at a c class estate which is no bigger than a Golf so may aswell go up a size. I am getting trade in value today.

Have you tried removing the boot trim - car boots are boxed in these days to make them look neat n tidy when you open the lid, but in fact you lose loads of cubby space at the sides. Have a look, either take it out long term and refit for sale, or find a local car audio place to retrim it in to maximum space.

My Dads old 5 series was the same - couldn't fit golf clubs across the width - took the first aid kit storgae cupboard out and fitted a home made GRP section trimmed in audio cloth - gained 6" on the boot width in the area where the clubs need to go !

I really cant believe boot space is an issue, there was a youtube vid going round I think (cant find it now) that had the gti, vs the megane and the rs i think, the gti was superior to all the others, even in the gti they got a large box (ikea stuff i think) and even a full grown man in the boot too and it closed fine.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

I don't carry a buggy, but if my golf clubs are anythign to go by then they won't fit across the boot width of  a MkIV,V or VI, they just fit across the MKIII rearwards of the wheelarches. That leaves the rest of the boot for bags, cases etc.   Having to place buggies diagonally across the boot is the worst starting point for packing luggage. Most modern cars are the same, too many boxed in sections with electronic boxes, first aid kit in them.

Just a suggestion.
