Ford did it with the MKII Focus not long ago.

Nick

they did but the changes were so minimal unless you actually looked properly you would be hard pushed to spot the differences.  the mk5 to mk6 changes however are considerable.

I agree, you can hardly tell the difference. Also, they didn't change it to a MK3 Focus.
It does seem a bit of a con by VW to do this.
Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
GTI no. 4. Golf no. 5.  VW no. 7.

What a very entertaining read that was. Not suprised to see the same name crop up in talking crap and not believing the facts. Just goes to show you can't teach pork!

They are only cars. If you are happy with it, then enjoy it. So what if it is based on an older model. It doesn't matter! Some guys on here are anal to the extreme.

Well there was 10mins of my life wasted.

Personal i could not give a damb i have both a mk5 GTI and a MK6 GTI both good cars i could not give a sh1t if there the 'same' or not.
But i am amazed no one said ETKA part numbers update for the mk6 if there the same as the mk5 its the same if there not theres differences.
Or a chassis is the only decider if its a new car or not? other brands in the VW group also use the same chassis?
Anyway who really gives a toss and i don't care about any replies i simply amazed no one said these two im not agreeing or disagreeing with the upset posters ive wasted enough of my life on this thread  :lipsrsealed:

On the original topic which we should all get back too, i see VW has gone away from copying the old fiat style (mk6) and gone to copy renault. Not a fan but then im happy with what i have.

I won't be going back to just the MKII section
You're welocme to use the rest of the site as well
nick

why would he want to take 4 steps back?

I didn't mean the other MK sections, but there's a VW related area, a chat nonsense area, a photogrpahy area, a projects area, the classfieds, events etc etc.

Nick

even a detailing section... oh, sorry, I forgot.. you lot like to talk about that down here don't you... cause cleaning a mk6 is different from cleaning any other type of car?!

More new renderings courtesy of Autobild in Germany. Clearly very evolutionary. Still understated and with strong visual links to its ancestors. Look at the rear exhaust. LEDs standard on all models. It's slightly bigger with more rear legroom. Expected to debut 2012, although GTI model will not arrive until 2013.

I'd buy that. It looks quite smart except for the exhaust pipe - if they're that shape it needs one each side. Much better than Auto Express's amateurs.

Of course, other than the fact it's probably going to be Golf-shaped, it could look nothing like that. I can draw a pretty picture of what I think the next Golf will look like too. Images this early on are just speculation based on what has come before (Scirocco, Mk6, Bluesport). And in this case a grainy image of what could easily be one of many styling exercises under consideration or even just a bit of intentional hype from Volkswagen.

hmmmm lovely design. 2012 is still a long way to go. As I mentioned earlier, I would most likely use my current GTI until the new one (MKVII GTI) comes out. This time round, I will wait a year after it has come out before ordering, hopefully all the newer additions will have been incorporated already.. heh heh heh....
