No - the two companies are/were completely separate (apart from them being Milltek agents).

A few of the old AmD boys have moved to APS now and i believe they have an excellent rep.

Yes, that is the one - APS was started from the 'best bits' of the original AmD, so it would make sense that any reminants of the original AmD good guys moved to APS.

I know what you mean about BBT not replying to emails or phoning back. 

Leopard, spots, and all that.  BBT were originally a shyte MaxPower type company, targeting chavtastic Saxos, Novas, Corsas and the likes - and their rep used to be truely hideous.  But when they were bought out by AmD, then all that was supposed to change!

Emails are the worse kind of comunication you can make then you want technical information.
I can imagine AMD get 100S 0f emails every day, we get over 20 per day and struggle to cope and reply to every one. Some emails need more time to reply due to the nature of the question and they get put on the back burner until we get more time...then the get forget about  by accident.    IMO you best option is call AMD direct and ask the questions direct and get the answer straight away or request a ring back.

I think Phill Millington was something to do with AmD as i was given his contact details from old AmD staff re getting my money back.

I agree with what you are saying regarding emails but sometimes its not convinient to phone and email is the only option.

If you are offering an email address as a form of contact then you should reply even if its just to say "this sort of enquiry would be better discussed over the phone".

Phil Millington (milltek boss) did indeed buy out the previous owners of AmD (Scott went to canada, Geoff the mapper then went with Ed Jackson to create APS).

Shaun Hollamby who ran BBT for a good while never got a bad rep from what i know. He bought the brand name of AmD Technik after Phil decided to let the company go last year.

AmD has actually employed more people in the last year to cater for their growing VAG business. Ben answers most of the emails now and i don't know why he never investigated and get back to u with some info. I've had AmD fit quite a few things to my car and Shaun and the boys always do a top job. If you look on SeatCupra.net...you'll not see a single bad word about them. And over the weekend, it seems the Audi owners like them too, as Audi Driver magazine readers have voted them Audi Tuner of the year for 2009.

And that was EXACTLY what I did.  I even told them I had a budget of £2k to play with - but fook all back from them.

Well, in BBT AmD Essex defence, I didn't actually e-mail them - but I wholeheartedly agree with both comments.

However, again in the general 'defence' of e-mails, you can't actually judge how 'serious' e-mails are - some might just be 'fishing' for info, maybe using it as a price comparison or similar - so if I were a trader, I would probably be inclined to prioritise e-mails lower down the pecking order than phone calls, or personal callers, or even the old skool fax message.

But with my phone call, I was deadly serious, and it was pretty obvious by the 'additional info' which I had to tell them! 


I personally think that AmD Essex are blatantly trading on the good reputation of the original AmD, and only purchased the AmD name because their original BBT name got such a bad rep.  ETTO though.

OK, never knew that bit about Phil buying AmD first.    But I was aware of their remap man, and Ed and the new APS company.

Hmmmm - I'm sure he hasn't told you the complete story.  Because IF BBT was as good as peeps seem to claim, why did they feel the need to completely change their name, and not just a 'new' name, but a complete purchase of an existing and very highly regarded name.  I smell fish!

Fair enough.  But that then is admission that they had no indept VAG expertise!  Adverts in glossy mags do wonders for attracting new business - especially so when they are now trading under the highly regarded AmD name!

OK, I'm pleased to hear some good personal feedback.  Are you fairly local to them?

But anyway, it isn't their workshop facilities and capabilities which I'm interested in - just their ability to supply parts!

Hmmmm . . . SCN - they have an extremely strict forum policy about peeps who wish to 'aire' probs, especially when they are their official forum sponsors.  So with that level of censorship, I think that particular comment is a bit of an 'own goal'.

And . . . . . Kim Collins QST won an Audi Driver mag award a while back - and he seriously divides opinions - some peeps rave about him, whereas others wouldn't p!ss on him if he were on fire.

Sorry, but my vast years of experience have shown that anything related to 'journalism' should really be taken with a pinch of salt.  By all means, use these kinds of awards as a starting point of reference - but NEVER take them as gospel - because if they were, then Kim Collins would have won the award every year since!

Was advised of this thread by a customer of ours. Seems like a few untruths listed by certain people here.

First of all sorry for not returning your calls to the 2 people who were not replied to.

There is mention that we worked on "Saxos, Novas, Corsas and the likes". Nope never did as BBT because we were solely VAG back then.

For the same reason, we COULDN'T have pissed off the "Vauxhall and Ford brigade". We didn't ever work on Fords or Vauxhalls as BBT. We are proud to now offer tuning for Ford and Vauxhall vehicles as AmD.

BBT was sold at the end of 2007 with an annual turnover of 1.4 million pounds.
 
As BBT, which ran between 1987 and 2007 we worked and supplied parts for solely VAG models. We also ran cars in the VW Cup race series.

I personally first ran a workshop, again solely working on VAG models from 1985, and all 4 of our technicians are VAG trained. I first worked in a VAG workshop over 30 years ago.

These are answers/ corrections to just a few of the ill-informed comments that have been made by a very opinionated but factually innacurate member of this forum. 

To be honest there are so many innacuracies within the posts mainly made by Teutonic_Tamer that it makes me believe there is an ulterior motive behind his comments? If it is solely based on us not returning a phonecall then you need to get out more?

Very easy cars to tune, so the owners tell me.

Back Box = 30bhp
Stickers = 5bhp
Cone Air filter = 15bhp
Shell Vpower = 8bhp
Blue led lights = 4 bhp
ebay chips = 25bhp

This is what the Saxo owners tell me when they come to use the rolling road to find out all there tuning mods have made -5bhp less the stock power...pmsl

Nova & Corsa they are ok when running C20LET/Z20LET lumps..
