Best way to clean bbs rm's
« on: 05 October 2009, 22:26 »
Hi, I'm looking to take the bbs rm's off my car for the winter. I would like to clean them up before storing them. I was just going to use alloy wheel cleaner (the type you get in a trigger spray bottle) but I was advised not to use this (but didn't get chance to ask why!).

My question is what's best to use, apart from soap & water, as I dont want the risk of damaging any surfaces.

Thanks

bilberry or autosmart smart wheels... or any non-acidic wheel cleaner

cover them in wax before you store them.. then a quick dust off come spring is all you will need

Thanks Guy. I'm planning on storing them in the loft covered up. Do I still need to wax them?

its a sacrificial layer... so it will help protect them... if it was me I would be.

Sorry if this sounds dumb but when you speak of waxing them do you just mean smear them with a thin coat of car wax (I have some Swissol, is this ok). Also do you wax the whole wheel or just the rim? Once waxed though wouldn't this just make all the dirt & dust stick to them?

not heard of swissol

waxed properly the wax (on the rim only) should prevent dirt and dust sticking to it.. I use poorboys wheel sealant and it makes the wheels very dry but slippy to the touch... dust particles don't have anything to grip onto then!
