Yes the ebay software may be the same, but at least its on the disc right?
I am scared of "bricking" the machine, but, that said, am downloading the files at the mo, thanks for the linkage.
Seems a bad start that the files are skoda!
rather excited about all this, sad eh!

The files aren't Skoda - so don't worry about that!
Whether you buy the disk for £30, or download this one makes no difference!  There is still an equal chance of 'bricking' your unit - which is about a 1% chance.
WirRAR is a program like Winzip (surely you've heard of that?!) but it can split the files you compress into however many bits you want.  This makes it easier to post on the internet!  Instead of posting a 400mb file, its split into 4 x 100mb.  Easier to upload and download.  Anyway - computer lesson over!  Download a trial of WinRAR - and open the first file with it.  It will then extract all 4 into a directory - which will give you a file called "cd_4.754.301_C_EU_9.242_t300_BMPQSBT5PQT5TOTO_C3C4AC5CC6.nrg" - which is a Nero image file.

Burn it with Nero on a decent branded DVD using the slowest write speed.

I powered my unit up on a table using a seperate power supply.  It has  to be capable of supplying 12V and at least 3amps - the VW head unit is quite power hungry!  If you want to do this, you need to connect positive wires to pins 15 and 16 - and negative to pin 12.  This will make the unit boot up and ask you for the code.  If you use a PSU that has less that 3amps, it will cut out when running!

All you need to do is put the disk in, and follow the on screen prompts.  After a few minutes it will start the update and it has progress bars on the screen (like in the pics on the website I posted).  It will restart a few times during the update - and mine took about 45 mins.  When its finished it gives you an Update Complete message and then restarts after you say OK.

Forgot to mention...

I'm HOPING you got a key code and a Map Disk from your eBayer?
If you are on version 800, there is a good chance that updating the FW will erase your maps.
Tell you what... PM me your name and address etc, and I'll post you the FW update disk I used, and a map disk.  It'll save you any hassle!

Peeps, what all does the new firmware give you, apart from the SD Card to 32GB. Does the air con display now work as well?

How does the aircon display work then, does it just appear when you adjust the climate control or what? Any pics of a screen shot anywhere? Ta
