Engine trouble, MK4 2.0 Gti, (115)
« on: 05 October 2009, 21:13 »
Ok here goes, only got the car about a month or so ago and was in the garage for the first 3 weeks had it now driving about for around 2 weeks and its having trouble the past 2 days startin and staying started....  It will start but as soon as I go near the accelerator it cuts out, if i leave it alone running for about 5 mins ie the temp gauge just starts to move, then its a bit chuggy but goes, then when a bit warmer it goes fine, can switch off and restart no probs....  Engine sounds very rough and when u rev really high my mechanic says its backfiring aswell???  He's the mechanic so i believe him! Thinks it might be the tappets at the least, I'm hoping he's right!!!

Any ideas on how bad this is???  Any ideas would be useful, on friday he is takin apart the engine for me to try n find the problem.

Thanks Guys
xxxxx

Bad enough to put the car out of it's under-powered misery.

The myriad of issues suggest you should take it to a competent mechanic, who I suspect will tell you the head gasket is gone.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Its computer diagnostics, you can get it done at any vw garage and lots of other garages do it for a fee or you can buy your own software to run on your computer.

+1, head gasket would be my guess as well.

It was only the temperature sensor, was put on a machine and sensor changed and been ran for 2 days and is running sweet as a nut, starting every time, no mayo, no tappin..... no nuthin!!! Feels so much better even from when I first got it so must have been the prob all along no other fault codes being thrown up and everythin else been all checked out....  Just imagine me going "phew n wiping my forehead!!! lol
