Classic Policies - a WARNING
« on: 05 October 2009, 20:32 »
Do not take the word when taking out your policy.

I have just tried transfering the Phatsat onto the Golf OLD classic policy which has 4 months to run.

When i took the policy out i ask about transfering another vehicle onto the policy.

the responce - yes sir, wont be a problem, as long as its over 15 years .

WRONG. they wont cover the passat, as this particular company dont count it as a classic .

so I have just kissed goodbye to 4 months insurance as they wont / dont refund classic policies, and even with a DISCOUNT offered on upgrading the current policy and starting a new one they werent competative.

So the passat is now getting insured elsewhere, on a

wait for it

CLASSIC Policy    just got to confirm tomorrow after some more shopping around

and the runabout is on the passat policy until it expires  :lipsrsealed:

Ive been thinking about insuring my mk2 golf on a classic policy, my friend did this with his, only problem is he said he got onto the policy as his mk2 1.3 was 20 years old, and mine is 19 so I couldnt do it. With a gti he said it only has to be 15 years old to be classed as classic, could have just been that company though.

under FSA rules all their telephone calls must be recorded which means the original call where they confirmed the transfer could be done easily without any disclaimers must still be there.  Make a complaint to them and if they don't budge report them to the financial ombudsman.  Just your little complaint will make masses of work for them so you'll easily get your money back.

Footman James cover the mk2 GTi under a classic car policy. Think the criteria is the vehicle needs to be 15 years or older and you have have to be 25 and over.

HIC have come good . they have sorted me a classic policy albeit it with a different company  , waived admin fees etc. :afro:

Moral - DONT always take the first answer, amazing what you can get with some persitance  so the runner is now on unlimited and the phatsat on a classic - fully comp.

Glad you got it sorted dude.

Different companies will have different criteria as to what they class as a "classic" - usually a car has to be a certain age but that does not always make it a classic, often only certain vehicles are classed as classic and there are minimum values etc for example a '93 mk3 golf 1.4 worth a couple of hundred pound may well be old enough to qualify for a classic policy but im pretty sure you wont find many on the back of classic car mart for sale (no offence intended to anyone who owns similar!)
