Mysterious buzzing
« on: 05 October 2009, 19:29 »
I wonder if anyone can shed any light on this.

If I put the key in the ignition and turn it so all the lights come on on the dash I can hear an intermittent buzzing from somewhere - I think it's from the dash area or maybe beyond that into the engine bay. It also does it if I switch the engine on although, of course, it's harder to hear.
It's not the whirring of a CD before anyone suggests that (I have the 310 and it's almost always got just the ipod plugged in anyway rather than a CD). The car is absolutely fine in all other respects.
The buzzing seems to stop after a short while. I suspect it must be the car doing something - I'm just curious to know if it's just mine or if they all do it. And what exactly is it doing?

Climate control stepper motors adjusting and doing their thing?

Try turning the CC off and see if the noise vanishes.

It's not the climatronic as it does it with that turned off.
Just had the bonnet up when it does it and it comes from the very front of the engine bay and is a bit of a buzzing/whirring noise. It stops after a couple of minutes and comes from either side suggesting it might be headlights adjusting??
So does that mean Howlingmoon is right with his fuel pump prognosis? Is that where the pump is? But there can't be two of them can there?

All very mysterious

Personally, I think you should all go outside and try it out for yourselves - see if yours does it.

Do you drive with your gran in the car ? Could be the old hearing air. You know, like Rolfe and her mum type scenario.
