I get the crunch occasionally when cold, but it is understandable, the engine now has 192,000 on the clock.

Regards.

In all honesty its done a sh!t load of mileage and its probably earnt the right to play up, at least your diff rivets haven't gone through the case which is a major pisser on the old 020 style boxes and is what happened to mine. I think the major problem with taking the box apart is seperating the bearings from the shafts and from the case and you need all sorts of pullers and tools to do it, Be interesting to see the pics of the box rich if you manage to get it apart, a large hammer may come in handy.

Disaster.............I'm going to be messing around with a gearbox this weekend but not the one I thought.  :'(

I filled the Audi up with petrol this afternoon on my to picking up a new toneau cover for my cabrio. Went to pull away at a roundabout and there was an almighty bang and bits of gearbox landed in the road.  :o
Needless to say the autobox could no longer select a gear and I had to call Hazel out in her good old Audi 1.8S and get her to tow me home.

I haven't even dared look, I borrowed her car, picked up my toneau cover and have prepared myself for the worst this weekend........part of this preparation involves drinking vast amounts of Stella tonight.  :'(

Looks like it will be a bit longer before I dismantle the Mk1 gearbox........how ironic is all this  ???

On the bright side, I have the perfect oppotunity to install a manual gearbox into the beast, I have one from an old Audi Coupe GT 2.2, I don't suppose anyone knows if it will fit?
