Which 16v setup....?
« on: 05 October 2009, 09:19 »
im finally at the point where i have the cash to buy whatever i need to finish the 16v conversion.

but as usual i am confusing myself listening to a million different opinions!

i have the option of using either the early Kr management ( have everythin i need) or using the stock 9a management with chip(just need new loom)
spec is currently:

9a 2.0 16v
Kr Cams
50/52?mm inlet manifold
K&N panel filter
Custom made straight through exhaust (1 box)

The engine was running 148bhp (print to prove) with the KR cams and k&n with 40mm inlet mani and standard exhaust, so im guessing maybe 154bhp with the larger inlet manifold and exhaust?

The chip for 9a ecu claims to raise a stock engine to 154bhp, without any other mods, so thats an 18bhp increase claimed. i'll drop that figure to 10bhp as claims are always overrated, do you reckon with the set up above and the chip i could hit 160/165bhp?

do you think running it on an early (green writing, more aggressive timing/advance) kr setup would get anywhere near that?

Be interested to hear your opinions on this guys...

I'd go with the KR stuff over the 9a, 9a ecu is setup for the lame inlet cam plus its tuned for best economy/emmissions which is why a chip gets such gains.  Plus you'll need to spend extra moneys on the loom and lambda and weld a fitting for it to your downpipe.

i have a full 9a loom for £40, Just gotta pick it up, and welding in the lamda mount is no big drama.

i just dont see how the kr set up can match the chipped , kr cammed 9a setup? surely all id end up with would be 150bhp?

as i say, the chip simply turns the lame map into a good map. the kr already has a good map as std ;)

the advantage is you have everythign you need for the kr setup, so why not fit it and find out for yourself? can always convert to 9a later on if you want.
