Just to explain in a little more detail, Underwriters are legally obliged to supply your data to the Motor Insurers Database within 7 days of your arranging cover.
In practice this will vary from company to company, but the average that we have experienced from our range of Insurers seems to be around 3 working days so far.
You can log on and check to see whether your details have gone live with the MID at
www.askmid.com , which will show you straight away if your vehicle is listed. To be safe, at Greenlight we suggest that our customers check the MID within our documentation enclosing the hard copy of the policy Certificate of Motor Insurance to our customer.
When arranging cover via a Broker your risk details are encrypted and electronically submitted to the respective Underwriter (Insurer) and depending upon how the Insurer in question uploads risk data this may be once per day, overnight or throughout the day. Most Insurers will have your detail upon their system by the next working day at the very latest.
In the meantime, your broker will confirm cover and issue you with a temporary (or permanent) certificate of Motor Insurance which can be shown to the boys in blue in the event that you are not showing on the MID register.
If your vehicle is not showing upon the MID register the Police will look to contact the MID for clarification, who in turn will contact either your Broker or the Underwriter directly for clarification that you are covered.
MID wise, our suggestion is that you wait for the 7 days to expire and then check.
Hope this helps...
Kind regards
Tony
