They dont use a machine so they will have used a silicone based filler.

Give it a week and it will look awful again,

Wish people would read up on things first, you have paid them to ruin your paint!

Dont know how many times ive said this but

DONT GET LIFESHINE OR ANY OTHER DEALER BASED PAINT PROTECTION - ITS CRAP!

I'm really pleased with mine. I know the detailing guys don't like it but the Autoglym Lifeshine I had done is immaculate.

Matchboy - any update on this?

Part of the reason I'm getting it done is that I've gone for a leather interior. They tell me as part of the treatment, the leather gets some kind of covering that protects and feeds it, and they also treat all the mats/carpets etc with a stain protector (scotchguard I'm guessing)

the inside appears to be fine, didn't have a problem with that.  as for the outside it certainly looks like they have done a proper job this time.  however i'm getting it checked on friday by the dude who does my car - i'll let you know what he says.  i know some people don't like this supaguard but i do (if its done properly).

Folks, I'm still undecided as to wither to go for the lifeshine or not. On searching the threads there still seems to be a lot of mixed reviews. I would be interested to know that those of us who are still waiting for our cars have made a decision yet.

My decision is simple-  i wont pay a dealer £300 to apply £20 of products to a new car and potentialy ruin the finish with additional buffing and rubbing.  Having rejected a car for swirled paintwork the less contact the valetters have with my car the better.

I would also prefer to do my own car, its an opportunity to get up close n personal and inspect the paintwork properly.

Everyone is differnt - if its a lease car, do 20k miles a year and want to wash it once a month and never polish it then you are the ideal candidate for Lifeshine or Diamondbrite !

I was thinking along the same lines. When I bought a new SAAB a few years ago, the dealer told me to be careful with the paintwork for the first new months, to allow it to harden properly. (SAABS come with a clear lacquer on the top of the metallic paint). So I am leaning towards not letting anyone else near it, as I want to be the first one to get up close and personal......ummmmmm.......up close.......personal....hubba hubba.....

As said eariler on in this thread, Lifeshine, Supagard etc are really only for people who dont clean there cars that often. It's never going to compete with a good properly applied wax.

The previous poster got it spot on saying that it's best to let other people have minimal contact with our cars. I know a few "valleters" at large dealerships who are still using sponges and chamoises on new cars. Most are paid very little, and have not had any sort of training in the art, so it is very unlikely that they are going to do the sort of job that we would be happy with.

If you are detailling your car yourself on a regular basis, you are more likely to spot any new defects and deal with them straight away. This would not be the case if you were only giving it a quick wash now and again beacause you were relying on the dealers treatment to protect the paint.

As for the cost of it. I know of many people who have had the treatment done when buying cars and said they have got it for free. However, the dealer has told them that he cannot discount the car any further, but will smear on products that should normally be charged out at £300 instead. Not exactly free then.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

^^^^ Thanks for that. It looks like I will go for protecting the paint myself. By searching the threads there are a lot of products recommended by members which I will take on board.

My only last concern is for protecting the cloth seats, I will need to do a search on that.
