8v GTi - stalling without throttle applied
« on: 01 October 2009, 20:10 »
so..

the mk3 starts (once you press the gas pedal)

let go of the gas pedal and it stalls immediately, it does this hot or cold...

have changed HT leads
the two relays were changed about a year ago for genuine VW ones
the TB has NOT been cleaned out - it WILL be tomorrow with the help of horney
spark plugs will be changed tomorrow

it used to stall ONCE when it was started (after running for about 2 minutes) - and was fine for the rest of the day after that... then it developed this fault

it has done a couple of 500 mile round trips recently and i think these have taken their toll

is there ANYTHING else that I should be checking in order to get this b!tch up and running pleasings.. it is completely undriveable as it is.

(and no... i haven't searched... as I am fcuking tired and p1ssed off from cycling everywhere as the mk1 is knackered too)

You got the bit for the MKI yet? If you have we cam do that tomorrow as well.

As for the III we'll clean the TB, check all the sensors, check all the vac pipes and see how we get on.

You got any carb/brake type cleaner? If not I can pick some up on the way over.

Yeah, i would go with cleaning the tb, made mine run 100 times better, but also clean the vac pipes, as mine were litterally blocked with rubbish.

Failing that it would seem logical its a fuel supply issue, so maybe a sensor is broken somewhere.

I would offer the use of my reader, but ur are miles away.

Is the throttle linkage thing touching the idle switch when closed?
