You then would still have a switch that is supposed to operate a pair of front fog lights that doesn't operate anything if you remove them !!

Fair point.

just remove the bulb...job done
(and could save you getting mot issues!! I had one tester who said because I had spacers fitted the car would fail as the trye could contact the body! and that was while running at 80mm lower...only a boot full of fatties could of caused contact!! but he was determined not to give me the slip!)

Might sound a bit daft but instead of removing the working bulb have you tried a new bulb in the other fog light to just get them both working??     Cheers      Deano

Dropped it off this morning.

Mechanic said they don't need to be working.

I took the unit out yesterday.  Almost broke the thing when trying to twist the unit to get the bulb out.  Was corroded.

Bulb looked ok, not filament damage.  Think its possibly a bad contact or something.

To be honest tho, the light is the least of my worries.

I KNOW it's going to fail.

Going to wait and see what the damage is going to be before deciding what to do.

SHould find out this morning......

Told you - they are not a test requirement whether they are fitted or not. There is no legislation saying cars must have front fog lights, there is legislation for a rear fog light after 1986. You cant penalise one car for having a blown front foglight which is just an accessory / special option and pass another car because it hasn't got any fitted.

Good luck with the rest of your MOT.

Dunno, but the fog's are now the least of my worries.......

The girl from the garage's office called me asking to pick the car up.  She said it had passed! Just headlight alignment and that was it!

Queue 10 mins of dancing around laughing that my noble steed lived to fight another year.  But no.

I cycled up to the garage for them to tell me it had failed.  I think there was another golf in today that must have passed.

Anyway, time to see if its worth fixing up.  I think it is.

I'm about to post another thread about fixing it up after I search the forum.

On the advisory sheet it said nothing about the fog being out.
