Newbie from Yeovil, Somerset.
« on: 01 October 2009, 12:15 »
Hey,

If all things go according to plan, I should be buying a 1996 Mk3 8v GTI on Saturday. I'm selling my 1972 Beetle on Friday and have found the GTI the other side of bristol for low milage (73k) and low price, and standard, which will help with insurance :)

I'm 21 and from Yeovil, Somerset. I think there's another guy on here from Yeovil, and I've seen a couple of nicely modified Mk3 GTI's going around town!

I'm hoping that I will be able to lower the car a bit, and then stick some alloys on it, nothing too crazy!

Thought I'd seen someone here from Yeovil ;)

Yeah, I think I saw that around a few weeks ago.. Shame about havingt to sell it! You got another one?

Direct Line seems to be the cheapest atm, about £700ish.. No mods though.. Who's cheap for you guys with mods?

I'm with Adrian Flux right now, paying £650 for the year on a 1.8 GL, I'm 20 with 1 NCB. All my mods are declared like for like as well, which a lot of insurance companies won't due, this includes:

Alloys
Coilovers
Headlights
Taillights
Indicators
Black badges
Aero wipers
All interior audio
Even my VR6 splitter

I would defo make sure you find out some quotes with some mods you'll know you want to do as if you can get a rough price on how much it'll be, it'll give you a better idea on what you can do in the first year.

well, after being on the phone to Adrian Flux and everybody they passed me on to, I haven't been able to get anywhere near my Direct Line quote of £737. I don't think they cover mods, so looks like a year of no mods for me.. :(
