Electronics question
« on: 20 September 2004, 15:19 »
Not sure where to post this so it's here.

I want to illuminate the big hole in front of the gear stick in my mk3, where my nice new fischer cd box is hiding in the dark.

My plan was to use some leds mounted in the roof of the hole.  Unfortunately i have almost no electronic skills :-[

Here's what i am planning to do:

share current from the rear window heater switch

put a resistor between the +ve current and leds,

put 4 leds in series after the resistor

connect to circuit to the -ve bit of the rear window heater circuit.

The leds are 2.2v, 25ma  therefore i calculated the resistance at 128ohms assuming the current is 12v.

Does all this sound reasonable as it's all foreign to me.

Also i need to put a switch in some where, i was going to get another rear window heater switch from the scrappy and put it in a dash blank.  Would that switch be ok?

Thanks for any help!

Pop your self down to halfords, they have interior light set ups already done, and you would be better off wiring them into a "lights on" source, like the illuminated dial around the cigarette lighter.
I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture

I had a brief look in halfords but i couldn't find anything really suitable.  I might go to a bigger store and have a look.  Could save a lot of hassle.

I hadn't thought of a lights on source.  It would make sense as i would only need the illumination when i also need lights.  I will investigate.
