Road speed sensor???
« on: 29 September 2009, 16:17 »
alright lads,

got a agg 8v gti. been having some idling issues for a while. its not the throttle body, or crank sensor before any1 suggests that.

Noticed at the weekend when i was sat in traffic on a steep hill that when your free rolling in neutral the idling is perfect, as soon as you stop it starts hunting again. it never cuts out but gets close to it. now it doesnt need to be free rolling at any certain speed just as soon as the car starts moving then the revs pick up. could this be something to do with the speed sensor that sits on top of the gearbox? or is that only to do with the speedo in the dash? the speedo works fine and is accurate so not sure if it could be faulty or not.
any suggestions welcome. cheers

mine has exactly the same problem as yours its a 95 ady 8 valve, mine has new leads plugs cap et6c etc i have also cleaned the throttle body, and no air leaks!, i am due to replace the crank sensor as mine has a crack in the cable and occasionally say once a week will start but cut out immediately 3 or 4 times, so will update you on results of that however i suspect it's the road speed sensor so thats my next thing to change, i do also suspect that it could be the iat sensor on the airbox.
