I've said this many a time... Just because we all have/had golfs, doesn't mean we're all going to get along. I first thought people who made friends on the internet were proper nerds, with no social life. Then a few shows later I found there were some genuine, like minded people, who were it not for this forum I'd have never met. In some cases its gone beyond cars, in fact a few of us went to another guys wedding recently!
So if you guys are happy to stay in your specific section of the forum I dont have a problem with that, just as long as you realise there is more than just this section! In response to the question about VW meets, then there is a section for that, which we try to have threads for as many meets as we know about. If you want to start a meet yourself for mk6 owners, then do so, but post it in the meets section as there just may be others who'd like to come along as well.
On all forums there is normally some kind of banter, but trust me this is mild compared to some I've read! Tarring everyone outside the mk6 froum as childish idiots is ridiculous. Agreed alot of rubbish gets spouted in the 'off topic' section, which is the sole reason its there! Without it, the rubbbish would just invade the rest of the forum.
If you dont like 'modifiers' then there's not alot you can do about it, so I can see why you wouldn't want to look at certain areas of the forum! There are alot of people who want to do more to their car, me included! I cant see that I'll ever drive a standard car again, they weren't perfect from factory so whats wrong with finding ways to improve?
As for the dreaded Moderation, well too much and you get called power hungry nazis. Not enough and things get out of hand. Its a difficult thing to balance, with alot of new members in a section about a new car that no-one knows a great deal about yet, there is bound to be issues. What normally happens is someone who appears to be a sane and level person, gets asked if they'd like to moderate a section they seem to know and care about. In time this will happen to the mk6 forum.
I dont really know what else to say but stick around, if your happy staying in this section, so be it. If you want to go to a meet, there are loads if you look in the relevant section. Although you're coming out of show season so this will slow down a bit. If you want to show others your car, do so in the 'dub rides' section. If you want a full blown project page, there is a section for that in which JV or Toph will create a thread for you that no-one else can post in... etc etc. We're all here to have fun, learn somethings, share knowledge blah blah blah.
