Still not happy, with the drive quality of my Golf.
« on: 28 September 2009, 23:23 »
My golf still sounds throaty, as if it's holding back.  after 4k revs, it's much better.  Fuel economy also sucks.  what improvements can i make to sort the 'hesitating going forward' issue out? cheers. Indi.

Will it rev past 5000? If so its not a timing issue!

It may well be that its just the normal Mk3 power band, nothing really exciting happens until 4000 revs!
You could try a decent remap, (Rtech) as that brings in a bit more torque and more power lower down.

My Golf is a 8v.

1.  I have used carb cleaner on my throttle body recently, lots of black crap was wiped away.  Also sprayed the cleaner behind the butterfly.
2.  Changed Dizzy and HT leads and Rotor Arm 2 days ago, went and bought the Halfords branded standard bits.
3.  Havn't changed the Sparks, anyone recommend brands that work well with the 8v?  ( not too pricey please ).
4.  Havn't changed any filters, anyone recommend brands that work well with the 8v? ( again, not too pricey please ).

Thanks in advance.   Indi.

8v should have lots of power under 3500
i would recomend removing TB to give a proper clean all around butterfly
could be clogged air filter, vw one isnt expensive
spark plugs ect, Beru are meant to be decent oe quality and arent much
