intermittant temp gauge
« on: 28 September 2009, 20:58 »
Anyone know why (intermittantly) from cold start i can drive for 8-10 miles and notice the temp gause is cold and will suddenly pop up to normal temp?

Its almost as if a blockage is cleared in a pipe somewhere and the needle rises and then is fine for the rest of the Journey???

Don't know if its the same on a VW but when I bought my Ibiza PD TDI 130 Sport I had temp gauge problems.

When starting the car from cold or warm the temp warning buzzer would sometimes go off and also leave the red warning light on and the needle would be slow moving up.
After returning the car to the garage it turned out to an expensive fix as the circuit board on the instrument panel needed replacing and the fault had now spread to the needle in the fuel gauge working when it wanted to.

The instrument panel circuit board was replaced with a new one at the garage which then had to be coded by SEAT for the correct mileage, cost garage just over £400!

Just thought i'd mention it as I know it's also a fault on Audi's as well.

The plot thickens!!!

Problem with the temp gauge now seems to have gone, but now when its cold (freezing or below) on start up i get a coolant warning messge come up and a warning not to drive, when I turn the engine off and on again the warnign goes, nothing wrong with the coolant levels but I am guessing this could be related to the temp gauge problme I was having Any Ideas?

Wondering if the £10 fix from ebay did the trick Mr A?
