1.4 SE overheating question
« on: 26 September 2009, 19:24 »
Hi folks, my thermostat has been changed twice as the car was overheating, the gauge is going to 110 and moving between that and 95, the fan is kicking in, is this normal or should it be at 90 max?

Should sit at 90 !! If the fan is cutting in and it still going up to 110 and overheating maybe you have an airlock in the cooling system. Or at worse the head gasket has gone !! You got a rainbow in your coolant ??

So what's happening? The car is hitting 110 then the fan is kicking in, then it goes down to 95?

Golf MK3 1.8 auto and I didn't pay a grand for the "priveledge", auto windows all round and a AC. Oh and I've got a luggage net you pricks!

Does that make my willy look bigger?

Oh yeah it's called Helda or something....

Sounds like an airlock then, I don't know about MK3 Golf's but MK4 1.4 Polo's, the thermostat housing cracks slightly and no amount of thermostats fix it.

So the fans only kicking in when it reaches 110 ? Air lock then or a faulty fan switch !!

Normally giving it a blast mine will reach 110 before coming down.

As does the MK4 Polo I was on about.

If you do a search on here the mk3 GTi 2.0 8v normal is as I said !! Don't know if the 1.4 unit is normal to go up to 110 before the fan comes in...Sounds high to me as the coolant will be past boil point before the fan even cuts in..
