I have a dirty great chunk missing out of one of mine, but it was still just an advisory :s
You can see it if you look down the back of the engine :D 1.5 inch by just under an inch hole.
Depends where you get it done I suppose.

exactly the same as mine...

Was speaking to an MOT guy tonight at the club (yes a working mens club lol) may i add.... cheap beer :)

He said, it will pass an mot, may be an advisory... Only the outer CV Boots are a fail as they move alot (the joint) and is a safety issue.
where as the inner isnt.

I still need it doing but may have to wait few weeks. i think im going to try my look on friday for the MOT... I'll let you guys know if it passes or not...
(I get 14dayz free retest at my place, and he only does MOT's.... doesnt do repairs..) so may go in my favour. so finger crossed.

Well decided to ring the MOT station..... He said the inner drive shaft is NOT mot-able, so it WILL Pass an MOT.

Good to know for future reference.

I will get it changed asap though, just i've/will be spending alot of money this week

http://www.motester.co.uk/CarOwnersGuidetoTheMOT/WhatIsTested/tabid/2598/Default.aspx

Under vehicle checks:
All the steering joints are inspected by the Tester whilst the steering is loaded by turning the steering wheel from side to side.
Power steering systems are checked with the engine running
The security of attachment of the steering rack or steering box is checked both with respect to the tightness of nuts and bolts, and structural cracking or corrosion of the vehicle chassis where it is attached
Whilst the vehicle stands on special swivel plates the wheels are turned from lock to lock and checked to ensure that the wheels and tyres do not foul either the structure of the vehicle or any brake pipes or hoses
with the wheels jacked the wheel bearings are checked
steering rack gaiters and front outer constant velocity joint boots are examined
metal and/or rubber bushes are checked as are split pins, locking nuts and other locking or retaining devices which relate to steering components.
On some cars there will be rear wheel steering which is checked from beneath the car.

Seems odd but must be correct.
