Manifold/exhaust systems - Mk2?
« on: 26 September 2009, 13:55 »
I am currently rebuilding my Mark 2 GTi 8v engine and considering putting in a "new" exhaust system

I just wanted to ask  do any of the aftermarket full exhaust (Jetex,Piper,Magnex etc. etc.) include the manifold ?
or do I have to get a seperate manifold and the system seperately? also, will two different manufacturers fit properly into each other to make a whole system?
any advice  is greatly appreciated

You'll have to buy the 2 seperately. For ease of fitment and to ensure maximum power gains I'd use the same manufacturer for both tbh. I had a mate who purchased an ebay manifold and a magnex system for his pug and they didn't fit together.

I use to have a Miltek S/S system and Miltek 4 branch manifold on my mk2 gti 16v. Wouldn't have had any other exhaust tbh! Sounded brilliantly throaty, but not boomy and chav like. Realised a bhp increase of 10 bhp after a rolling road tune up to set all the fueling corretly. Expect to pay about £600ish for the whole lot though

Thanks guys. Due to cost, I opted for a full mild steel Ashley system over other aftermarket systems - manifold 4-1 through to twin pipes at the back. Hopefully, will get the car back on the road by Thursday this week and will let you know how it all fitted/sounds etc.
