As many of you know i had planned to take my AGU to stage2 using the R-tech map.
So today Pat and myself headed down early this morning,we arrived a little early so hung around until everybody turned up.First things first Ben made us a brew(very good start),and we chatted for a bit while they were setting up for the day ahead of them.Once everything was clear they didn't mess about and my car was straight onto the ramps.I was still a little low to make it onto the rollers so they quickly raised me up another 40mm,and got it to sit on.Nick had a quick look under the bonnet to check everything was ok and gave it it's first run with the Custom Code map and the ko3s turbo and other bolt on mods i've added since the map.
It made 212 bhp at the flywheel with 217 ftlbs torque The R-tech team worked their magic and started to check my car for any faults before they uploaded the new map.A quick check was showing a dv and throttle body fault.Ben cleaned the throttle body(which was filthy) and Nick set about the dv.After testing it wasn't holding vacuum, a quick clean inside and all was well. When they were 100% happy they uploaded their map and gave it another run.We were stood outside but could tell something had changed just by the engine note,it sounded more aggressive in the high revs. The results came out of the printer..............
229 bhp and 227 ftlbs torque I was more than happy with the results, but Nick and the team didn't like the torque level and started to investigate why it was lower than they expected. They started to take parts from each others cars and gave it a run each time to find the problem,i think it ran with 3 different types of N75 and a few runs with a couple of mafs.During all these tests runs it made 231bhp at some point, but i don't have a print out of that. They came to the conclusion it was a weak actuator that couldn't handle the boost and was keeping the torque lower than expected.
Went out in it for a spin with Nick and plant my right foot bam......................The power difference doesn't sound that much, but trust me it fecking fast.It must have something to do with the way the power comes in,but it feels almost like a N/A engine. Not much down the bottom end(see the above torque problem),but when it hits 3500-4000 rpm all hell breaks loose. It shoves you back into the seat and will hold you there right up to the redline Once i fit a new actuator it should give me another 15-20 ftlbs torque.
If anybody out there is thinking about a remap,be it stage1 ,stage2 or more i can't stress how much i recommend R-tech for both their maps and customer service.Give them a call and trust me you won't be disappointed .
Oh the fun i had on the way home
