I take it it's best to remove the grill to change the badge ?.

No, lift the bonnet up and there is a sort of catch on the back of the badge which you fidle with (its really hard to explain with words, easier to show you) to remove to badge. The new one will simply slot back into it and you twist it back into place so there is no need to remove the grille.

Just changed the front VW badge,no need to remove the grill as stated above.Just got the wd40 can out fitted the extension spray tube thing, quick few squirts, left it 30 secounds quick turn anticlockwise & out it came & then reverse to fit.
Looks so much better now with out the big stone chip in the chrome.Got mine off ebay genuine VW £6.00 .

Doubt you will find that and will require either yourself or someone to paint it.

Tried eGay ?

You can get them but they cost a fortune

You'll have to remove the existing GTI badges from the plate and then stick these on. They are exactly the same size.

I'll stick with my chipped badge for that price! :afro:
MKV GTI | Reflex Silver | 5-dr | Anthracite 17" | Manual | Highline MFD | Cruise | Revision 'D' DV | Dirty Pipes |

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?
