Fuel Economy

Yes yes I know its a well worn (and boring) subject but at the beginning of the week I was stuck in a convoy for about 60 miles on poor roads doing between 50-60 mph.  No stop / start driving at all but it was pretty mountainous.  The mountains averaged out though so started at sea level and finished at sea level.  Managed to get 41.1 mpg.  Pretty impressive I thought...



Anyone seen any better?  I think if it hadn't been for the mountains it could have been a bit better.

Well done!

I didn't think it was was possible, but I got 38.5 mpg in my mapped ed 30 - cruise on at 70mph for 250 miles non-stop (well, slowed down a bit on the long roadworks on the M1 around nottingham). Not sure how accurate these computers are, but it made me feel like I'd saved a fortune on fuel as I've just added 2k miles in 2 weeks!

I get 43 mpg most mornings on my commute from Huddersfield to Leeds.

Bizzarely i ony get 35 mpg on the same journey home - must be more uphills.

Get around 37-38 to my drive into work most mornings. Sometimes I have seen 40mpg.

The same drive home only gets me around 33-34mpg though.

Yes it was pretty boring, but maybe not as bad as you might think.  The condition of the road made driving at that speed reasonably entertaining.

Once I got off that road, I had a 150 mile journey on a good road where I opened her up quite a bit.  Overall average for the entire journey was 38.5.  I thought the stints of 80+ (kph :rolleyes:) would muller the fuel consumption but it didn't.

I'm just excited to see anything over 30 mpg, normal commute gets me around 25-29mpg.  Still, its not the reason I chose this car.

I also notice my MPG on the way home from work is always better than on the way in, going to work is uphill, going home is downhill  :smiley:

Maybe the computer doesn't like been woken up early and tells porkies!
