Yes it was pretty boring, but maybe not as bad as you might think. The condition of the road made driving at that speed reasonably entertaining.
Once I got off that road, I had a 150 mile journey on a good road where I opened her up quite a bit. Overall average for the entire journey was 38.5. I thought the stints of 80+ (kph

) would muller the fuel consumption but it didn't.
I'm just excited to see anything over 30 mpg, normal commute gets me around 25-29mpg. Still, its not the reason I chose this car.
I also notice my MPG on the way home from work is always better than on the way in, going to work is uphill, going home is downhill
