only on 2001 onwards models  ;) and even then only if you go for sps3 and possibly 4bar fpr.

Depends what car you start out with, a late model (AUM, AUQ) will see 245bhp with a 4 bar fpr and suited map, big bore downpipe with high-flow cat and s/s backbox, and a decent intake. That lot will rack up a bill of roughly 2 grand.

On earlier cars (AGU) you're talking turbo change time. Depending how cheaply you can get a k03s or k04 turbo this is feasible, but then add on custom maps, exhaust and intakes as above, you're looking at closer to 3 grand.

This is where most people stop, but others carry on with a BIG turbo upgrade to get 300 - 400bhp. Doing all as above, plus manifold, injectors etc, the turbo itself.. custom downpipe, then you WILL need uprated clutch/brakes/suspension (poss. bushes too), FMIC, not to mention 17" min. wheels to cover the brakes. I worked out the cost of all this once, roughly 10 grand.. as said in mad max, speed is just a question of how much money you have? 8)

I was told yesterday the money and work involved in going the k04 route (from having a k03 previously) is just as much as putting a IHI turbo on with standalone management and far out performs the k04. I'm currently having a quote done for that.

as far as I was aware the k03s turbo could only output enough to get you 220bhp and even then it was right on the limit? maybe with some other performance mods you could get it up to the 240bhp mark?

call Jabbasport and have a chat about options.

k04-001 (i think thats the model) bolts straight onto golf manifold, other k04's need custom manifolds, but they're no advantage over the k03s in most applications. I keep eyeing up the IHI kit, everything you need to bolt the turbo on for ?2020.. its just the cost of everything else that puts me off !
