What Tyres?
« on: 22 September 2009, 15:21 »
Need a new set for the front at least, may do rears as well as one has a slow puncture.

Anyway I have seen loads of stuff on tyres on here over the years but nothing definitive.

Toyo Proxy's get a lot of votes but what about other makes?
Falkens?
Goodyear?
Firestone?

Had a set of Yokohamas and dont really think much of them, certainly in the wet they are rubbish!

So opinions please!

I had 4 sets of Goodyear Eagle F1's.

In the wet they didnt give me any trouble, as well as the dry. And i cant rate them enough.

When i put my new wheels on, becuase of the profile i wanted i had to go for Toyo Proxies, they were the only available in that size, but they rung good news in my head, and got them.

They are no where near as good as the eagle f1's in the wet, first time i used them it was raining, and it wheel spun and i thought there was something wrong with the car as i was so unuse to it happening at that speed/power with my old tyres.

Yoko Prads seem to be more of a "dressing" as a mate said, look really cool, but not the BEST.

Never had falkens.

ive had flakens, toyos and am now rolling on rainsport 2's. ive got to say the rainsports are amazing tyres, very little noise, damn good grip and you can feel when they close to the edge.

I recently had new boots fitted all round, Firestone TZ200 petrol savers, Not the best tire but not at all the worst either, to me they look good and perfectly ok for normal driving, no issues anywhere for what i want drivewise and £265 all in.

Len, if you don't want a scene tyre and are going for correct fitment then there is a good tyre review on the Auto Express website, I will see if I can find a link...

I like Eagle F1s, myself.

I've currently got falken Z9's on my mk2 and I much say the grip is incredible, not tried them in the wet as the car dosnt go out when it's raining but in the dry they are really good and a reasonable price aswell,I used to have toyo proxes and I found that they wear out pretty damn fast but also a very good tyre.
