Winter Alloys .... decisions
« on: 22 September 2009, 00:26 »
Having just had 4 new GY F1's fiited to my 18 Monza11s, I'm wondering if now is the time to look out for some cheap 2nd hand wheels or possibly some replicas to run over the winter. Visually, I really like the Monzas and ideally want to continue with a VAG type wheel.

The car is a standard 5 door in diamond black and when I bought the car 18 months ago the wheels had a refurb due to a few minor marks and some more heavier scuffs. The wheels still look 95% ok, but looks like the worm could be about to start. In an ideal world the wheels should come off in 6/8 weeks time and be stored for winter. However, I could continue to seal them with poorboys wheel sealant and if they do go over the winter, have them refurbed in a smoked chrome finish.

Other options could be a BBS CH replica or a VW R32 Omanyt design (these in an 18 look good on stock suspension) or even a black Monza 11 design.  Still wondering about the whole black wheel on black car thing, as I have seen the Omanyt wheel in black that looks good. The other option could be some 2nd hand rims refinished in an anthracite colour .....

Any thoughts.......

I've got the 18 inch Monzas and want to take them off for winter while there is salt on the roads.

Currently on the look out for a set of 17 inch monzas on ebay to do this job.

Alternatively I have been considering buying a brand new set of 4 18 inch Monzas from VW to use next year, and use my current wheels (2 of which have been refurbed) as a winter set. They're not cheap though.......

You can pick up some OEM 17" wheels on eBay, new, Mk5/6 fitment for not much cash.
Not peanuts fair enough, but they won't make your car look uber bad either.

Winter tyres should last 3-4 years I'd have thought, if you only have them on for the worst few months.

Hi,

Condition is very good, no scrapes or curbage, only blemish really is one of the red stripes seems a little lighter colour in one spot but that's really all. Were fitted in January but I've sold the car and therefore they were took off so I have them spare. Looking for £200. I also have a non res Miltek cat back exhaust for sale and a Pioneer Avic D3 double din head unit / nav up for sale as well!

I'm near Shrewsbury in Shropshire. I may be able to post but I'd prefer collection if possible.
