possible newbie to photography

as i was saying on another thread a minute ago, all these amaing pictures are making me want to have a go!
now i just did a search but cant seem to find a related thread,
what are the best cameras to buy as an all rounder that wont need a bank loan?

please bear in mind i know chuff all about photography etc...

i know alot about x-raying but not sure how much relates, lol

how much do you have to spend? big zoom point and clicks with manual focusing can be bought for about a tonne. triple that if you want a proper slr.

I think alot will say go to a camera shop and see what feels right in your hands, I got a refurb'd Canon 400D through the canon ebay store for £350 i think, all about what you want to use it for.

For me I wanted the ability to change lens's etc and really dove in the deep end and just read loads and loads of tutorials practice loads and still do always good to read up on various techniques once you got the basics down, even good to re read the basics! as i foudn there are a hell of alot of thigns to learn but as said this is from the point of view that i wanted to gain a proper understanding of how to use the camera

there are loads of great point and shoot cameras about best bet is just to try soem see if it suits your needs dude

thats what i have, and so far used in auto everything, must learn more about it, but had some good shots ( or so I am told ) so far with it

Am i right in saying its all about the sensor size, that why dslr's give better picture quality because they have bigger sensor's than your average point and shoot compact.

right, presumably the bigger ones are digital also, not film...
