new to golfs
« on: 20 September 2009, 17:10 »
Hi guys. looking for a bit of advice.

I curently drive a 300bhp Astra VXR and am looking to chop it in for a ED30 Gti.

I have plenty of plans but need a little bit of help as things seem to work very diffrent to vauxhall scene.

First of all i was wonderin what sort of tuning options are avalible for this car? i would like as much power as posible before having to change the turbo and internals. Is it posible to run De-Cat pipes on these cars with a modded map to trick the lamba?

second question is security, i would like to run a clifford avenguard 5.5 with all the toys but have been told it cant be done due to canbus, i was told the same with the vxr but i have one on there and working great. Has anybody had this done?

and my last question is ICE, has any body fitted one of these? http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/pro..._id/12332.html
any feedback.

Many thanks for taking time to listen to me

Good choice with the ed30. Awesome car and in different league to the Vauxhall imo

Firstly Dave, welcome to the forum

I'll see if I can answer some of these questions for you...

"First of all i was wonderin what sort of tuning options are avalible for this car? i would like as much power as posible before having to change the turbo and internals. Is it posible to run De-Cat pipes on these cars with a modded map to trick the lamba?"

There are loads of tuning options for the Edition 30. More than I could mention here. I am currently running 360+bhp on the stock turbo and internals. There are turbo upgrades and internals available too - again I am currently off down this path and have already ordered all of the kit to do both internals and turbo - well over 400bhp - and that's before I add the NOS. Decat is also an option and there are at least 4 makes of decent aftermarket manufacturers along with modded maps.

"second question is security, i would like to run a clifford avenguard 5.5 with all the toys but have been told it cant be done due to canbus, i was told the same with the vxr but i have one on there and working great. Has anybody had this done?"

I haven't any experience of the Clifford alarms, but as the old saying goes "Anything is possible...it just costs more"

"and my last question is ICE, has any body fitted one of these? http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/pro..._id/12332.html
any feedback."

Linky doesn't work!

welcome, and thanks for the link. I have seen these units advertised and was also wondering if anyone had fitted this model or the non-nav unit.
If it does everything it claims to, and is directly marketed for the golf V, then this would solve any issues with upgrading to RNS/RCD510 plus mdi. And it includes ipod cable and shows track info on DIS & unit.
It does look good - but would be interested to know if anyone has taken the plunge?
will post the same Q in audio.
