new paint - problems/questions for the pros....
« on: 19 September 2009, 19:37 »
ok so i (foolishly) decided to fill a few small scratches on the mk1 and respray the repairs with rattlers.

the paint match isnt quite right, the new paint looks like the old paint does when the sun hits it, if that makes sense?

colour is vw paprika red. it seems quite a deep colour until the sunlight hits it and becomes very bright/vibrant. the new paint looks like that constantly.

i used grey primer as recommended in the paint chart for this paint, however i thought i should really be using red primer?
esp considering how bright its come out, would red primer not make the colour deeper?

failing all else, is there any way of trying to blend the two? some rubbing compound followed by SRP maybe?

any tips/hints/ideas massively appreciated, these 2 patches are the only things thats gonna let this car down!

asuming your paint on the mk1 is original it will have faded over the years due to uv sun damage etc, matching old paint is very tricky.
where did you get the rattle can from?

um..... motorworld.... but i have used their rattles many times before and always been quite impressed with the colour match, just not this time eh!

what about having the whole car mopped? try bring the old paint up to meet the new rather than vice versa?

Any chance you could post up a few pics to see the difference?
