ABS Rear Sensor Replacement

I've just gone through my ABS sensors with a multimeter and there was movement on the multimeter on 3 our of 4 sensors that moved to around 1.10 ohms with the exception of the rear drivers side which simply stayed stationery on 1 (that's what the multimeter reads without any connection) so I'm presuming that this is the one that needs replacing. A couple of questions:

1. Does this sound correct?
2. If so, from what I can see with those available on eBay you have to replace the entire cable that leads back under the rear seats - is that correct?
3. It looks a fairly fiddly job, is it? Do I have to get under the rear of the car to lead the cable back inside the car?

Any other help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I have looked at the ABS replacement post that's already on this forum but that's just for the front sensor.

1. Yes.
2.Yes that is also where you test it with the multi meter.
3. Yes. You may have to remove the hub and punch it out from the back if its corroded although I have heard of people managing to punch it through the stud hole in the disc.

Thanks for your input. One last question. Are there a few different types of rear sensor? I've looked on eBay and there seems to be a couple of kinds? My car is a '98 mk3 gti 16v 2.0

Okay, I have just finished replacing the rear sensor and it was actually more straight forward than I had anticipated, thanks largely to everyone's threads in the forum.

Just in case other people have to do this for themselves here's a couple of tips:

1. Use wd40 to loosen the stubborn allen-bolt
2. Line up the wheel bolt holes with the reverse of the rear sensor and use a bit of dowel rod or the flat end of a large nail and them hammer lightly to get the sensor out.
3. When you are inserting the new sensor you'll find that it's a bit tough to get into the hole. I got another person to help and I used the reverse of a large nail (the flat end) put this up to the sensor and get someone to lightly hammer the other end, making sure everything is lining up correctly.
4. You may find that after all of that the ABS light still doesn't go out - just drive it up the road and it should then.

As VW had quoted me around £150 to replace the sensor I've saved myself around £128 from doing it myself. Picked up the rear sensor on eBay for £22.
