It's amazing how many cars fail MOT's for split CV boots.

If the garage is short of work it is so easy for them to 'accidentally' catch them with a screwdriver during the test, especially as they get older because they can get weaker.
It's a nice little job for them because the parts cost buttons but they can usually sting you for an hours labour, in which case most people will pay this because it's "only a hundred quid or so" to get the car through it's MOT on the same day and save the hassle of going back.
It is a point that was raised before but having your MOT done by a place which makes it profit from repairing cars is not a good idea. You are better off taking it to a council-run testing station that does not do any repairs.
