Not sure which way to go...
« on: 16 September 2004, 12:38 »
I'm not sure which way to go with doing up my cab. Options are:

1. Restore the car as from production all over
2. Upgrade the car with clipper kit, upgrade engine to 1.9 with carbs, upgrade suspension, brakes, upgrade interior - recaro's front seats only take out rear seats, 15" wheels and mass stereo...
3. Go really old skool, simple look outside with 70's small bumpers, standard wheels, lower suspension a bit, upgrade brakes, keep interior old shool style just retrim with leather, chrome all over?

What does everyone think? Any other idea's would be good to hear.

Hmm, I would be very tempted to do a 70's retro look with chrome bumpers etc.

They're the ones that always attract my attention at the shows.

Not easy to do properly, as the parts alone will probably take months to find, but the results can be awesome.

be very careful going old skool, its all about fashion and like clothes fashions with dubs come and go just as quickly.  id be very wary about spending loads of money on chrome bits when next year it may well be all about bodykits for example.

id personally go back to standard maybe with some suttle mods or come up with something very different.  that way your doing it for yourself and it will be easy to keep changing things if theres something u dont like.  imagine the money you would save not having to buy the 'latest' chrome bit  ;)

Create your own style, and have something that reflects you. I went for the euro wheels with the clipper kit, and reckon it came off really well. Be different, I'm sure people will love it.
I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture

ok after discussions with the old fart (Father..!!) I'm going with option 3, but with only a little chrome which will be the small old skool 70's bumpers. This way it's just how I want it and not with what is in VW fashion at the moment.

So looks like I'm going to have to get another Golf for a daily driver. I'll write up plans of what I will do over the next 6-8 months and keep all informed.... :)

Thanks for the replies all.

I would do 3

But what ever you do, do what you want to do not tha fashion.
Yes are mk1 is retro with chrome etc.... but it is what he wants it to be, when the bodykit years come around again, we won't be changing it it will be staying as it is as that is how he likes it.

Just the change in doors for next year  ;)
