Order Placed - Apologies its not a GTi ~
« on: 15 September 2009, 10:48 »
Did the deal yesterday on a MkVI 1.6TDi 105bhp, will be remapped to 125/130 soon enough !  £4k off with scrappage for my old MkIII TDi

SE spec so plenty of electrical goodies without going OTT.

So far i've added leather steering wheel, gearknob, handbrake  - so much better than the plastic and given i'll be holding it for every mile a no-brainer option at £115
17'' Seattle wheel and sports suspension added - no idea what the ride will be like cos the test drive was on a 15'' shod car, but figured a GTI on 18s is reportedly firm but not too harsh, so i should be fine!
Servicing - £250 for 3 years - bargain !!

My only dilemna ?  Colour !!!

I'm not paying for metallic as i've maxed out my budget now, so its red, black or white.

Like the look of white, and it won't show chips n scuffs as much, but I'm not sure the 'return of white' will be too long lasting. Looks great on a GTi with the black skirts, spoilers  but not so sure on the SE trim

Red - blends with the rear lights nicely, but a bit boring otherwise in SE trim??

Black - love black cars, owned loads in the past and i can keep them clean n shiney, but not that practical with a 7 year old and his friends with bikes n skateboards !!

Not many pictures of SE spec around on the net - anyone have any views to help me out here ???

With the bigger wheels, lowered suspension and in white I personally think it will look fantastic and would look like a GT. I have seen quite a few SE's in white while on holiday recently and even in standard spec they look good. Go for white.

Of the 3 colours, it has to be white, IMHO.

Percymon, check out the pics from the link on the R20T thread just posted for the Frankfurt show. If you keep going through all the pics of the R20 there are some great shots of an SE TDI in white with R styling pack. Looks fantastic and should convince you about the colour.

Thanks for that - been and had a look, and the R line does look the business, albeit the bumpers are more extreme and have bigger black sections, plus its on 18s !

I do feel a lot happier with white now that i've confirmed the presence of the black plastic lower section on the normal SE bumper to break up the whiteness !

Went through the dealer forecourt and new stock at lunchtime,  saw a nice silver TDi with Porto alloys - i thought they were 18s at first, so going to be very happy with the 17" seattles :D

I'm still uncertain on colour - Red and White both look good, a white 1.4S with steel wheels was being collected by new owner and it looked great as did the white GTi in the showroom. No red ones to compare.

Tried the used car locator and it threw up some cars, but hasn't really conveinced me one way or t'other.

I still have a liking for the pale blue too, but thats another £410 added and i'd rather not
