Just gouged a wheel...
« on: 14 September 2009, 18:05 »
Coming back work just now some scallywag in a modded Corsa comes shooting round a corner on one of the country lanes near me...and in an attempt to swerve my left front Monza II clipped a rock hiding in the dirt embankment. I don't think there's a way to repair the wheel as it's made a 10mm²x5mm deep gouge on the black powercoated/sprayed area. Any idea's how much a new Monza II costs? My stealer's shut until the morning

Feel for you mate. I think a decent refurbisher will be able to weld up the damage prior to re-turning the face of the wheel, but it'd never be perfect. Sorry, can't help with the price of a new wheel.

Ouch, sorry to hear this.... I think a new rim will be in the region of £300 but a least your bodywork didn't take a whack.

Thanks mate. Looks like I'll be getting out the credit card yet again in the morning. And good point...I'm glad the bumper or wing mirror didn't get swiped

Hiya P3asa noticed you're in Eaglesham! have you run your new GTI over Eaglesham Moor that would be a damn grand run out to test the capabilities of the car. When I lived in Glasgow we used to do the full circle out through Clarkston up to Eaglesham across the moor and back through Kilmarnock it was a great run especially on a wild night.!! Great memories some 14 years ago now tho lol.

lol a Mazda alloy wheel is a bit different to a diamond cut Monza 2 wheel I'm afraid. It will need specialist refurbishment.

As someone said earlier your looking at about £300 - £350 for a new wheel from the dealer (at least that's what the Monza 2s for the MK5s cost)

That is very true. But certainly worth approaching a few repairers first I'd imagine.

Oh yeah, I wouldn't go marching in to VW and buy a new wheel straight away. Speak to a couple of refurb places first as it will be MUCH cheaper than a new wheel and see what their take on it is. Most of these companies send the wheels off to a special machine for the diamond cut so you will have to run on the spare wheel for a few days, all depends if they have an onsite machine (most the places I spoke to down in London didnt)
