8v tuning guide question...setting up timing
« on: 13 September 2009, 22:46 »
Just a quick question regarding setting up the timing...

Is this correct,

- Turn on car, bring up to temp
- Remove blue temp sensor
- Bring up to 2-2.5k....and hold it here?? setting 6 deg BTDC
- Replace blue temp sensor
- Bring back to 2-2.5k and check timing has advanced 30 deg

If it has then fine, timing is now complete??

Is this the correct way of setting up the timing?

Cheers

Turning dizzy untill the notch on the gearbox lines up with the 6 degree btdc on flywheel, with a timing light of course.

So do you hold the revs at 2-2.5k while setting 6 deg?

Yes mate,i got someone to hold it there while i turned dizzy.
I only did mine few weeks ago using the guide on here,i was bit confused bout the advance when you plug the blue sensor back in and rev it but was told thats what its supposed to do.Mine run so much better after doing the timing, even though the co has not been done in its life (still has tamperproof plug in the air flow meter)

yep thats how you do it, when I'm setting it up i pop a few credit cards into the throttle stop to hold the throttle open, add/remove cards till its at 2.25k and fiddle with the dizzy. once its lined up recheck the revs and adjust the cards to suit, then recheck the timing mark.
