Need some help

I have got a 1991 golf 16v

When i start the car some tiimes the temperature light continues to flash (longer than normal) and the rev counter rapidly fluctuates between idle and about 2500rpm.  the engine just ticks over as normal and sounds fine. 

This is really anoying me now and i cant think what is causing it

I'm no expert and maybe some of the experts could advise you further, but for the temp light - check the level of colent, maybe flush out and add new.

For the fluctuation, check that all the vacume pipes (the small ones have no leaks in them) I had this on my old 8V a vacum pipe was totally loose!

I have tried some things to try and sort this problem but it is still happening.

I have tried the above all ok.
Checked fuses, reset MFA, disconnected battery etc checked connections

Could this be the PCB on the clocks.  If it could what do i need to look out for??


Does any one know of any vw specialists that might be able to help???


Some one must know the answer to this, just hope it nothing to drastic
