squealing noise when on full lock - Mk2 16v

Getting a squeling noise from the front end when the car is on full lock turn, either to the left or right, any ideas as to what it can be ?

power steering fluid maybe?? just a guess though

Have a look at your steering pump drivebelt. Either adjust it or replace the belt.

STOP DOING IT!!

If you read the manual - especially in slightly older car with power steering.... the power steering pump is taking strain 'cos it's still trying to "assist" even though the wheel isn't gonna turn any more.

I buggered up my mum's Espace by holding it at full lock too often for too long... and that was NOT a fun car to drive when the pump went around a rounadbout!

You can take it to full lock, but they recommend 3-5secs max and then jsut back off a shade.

^^^^^Good advice. The handbook for my Audi stated exactly the same thing.......try and avoid using full lock. The PAS on that used to groan if the fuid level dropped too low, might be worth checking your fluid level.

new belt required i`m afraid,same on my mk2 16v, changed the belt and no more squeals


57 plate black 5dr ed30, 1969 bay window devon camper. thats all for now folks, hopefully picking up a wagon tomoz

deffo the belt changed mine at the weekend and now quite as a mouse  ;D
