Snapped Timing Belt
« on: 14 September 2004, 22:38 »
Looking at buying a 1990 Jetta 16v which has a snapped timing belt.

Its done 95K with history.

What is the normal damage for a 16 valver? I hear they are bad.

Are we looking at full head re-work or what?

Many Thanks

i wouldnt touch it with a barge pole, when an 8v goes pop your in luck as they dont do any valve damage. when a 16v goes pop everything gets bent!!

if you had a spare head to bang on and the car was cheap enough ie ?50 then would be worth doing, bishthefish was sellin a 16v head complete with cams etc for ?45, but the head gaskets etc are expensive, but dont get cheap bits get genuine v.a.g headgaskets and bolts!!

you should see a 20v engine when the belt snaps!! ouch bent 17 of my 20 valves ;D
