Just think of all the completely un-necessary 'air conditioning' services they offer!

From this statement I'll conclude that since it never stops pi$$ing with rain, or gets above 20c in the Scotland that i can leave my A/c service until next year!

Thats c£40-50 more for mods next month

Just leave it - seriously.  If your air con is working - it does NOT need servicing.  It is NOT part of the official service schedule, therefore isn't a requirement for maintaining warranty.

I thought the oil in the a/c system was hygroscopic and it was prudent to have it changed out every couple of years?

All refrigeration systems 'should' be sealed.

The PAG oil simply mixes with the refrigerant fluid - weather that is 'water-based' - I don't know.  But as AudiA8Quattro correctly stated, your air con circuit should be 100% sealed.  If they are leaking, or if the compressor has seized, or any other 'mechanical' damage - those are the ONLY times the air con system should need 'servicing'.  But if it working fine, then just leave it alone.

Afterall, do you re-gas your fridge or freezer in your kitchen every two years?

While we're on the subject and without starting yet another cambelt thread, I need to get mine done - what should I be looking at for a competitive quote? Should I get the water pump done too and how much on top for that? I've done 64k miles

Search the forum, and dig up the existing thread.  Ignore the warning in red pen about not being posted in for more than 30 days.  It will be much better to try and keep threads on topic.

True but prices fluctuate over time, I was just after a quick answer by anyone who may have looked this up recently

Its just as on topic as the MOT posts ;)

Oh, I personally don't give a monkies one way or the other if threads go off topic!

I just think that if there is an existing thread, and a 'post' will be on topic, rather than our usual bantering or p!ss taking - then I just think it would be way much more helpful to resurect an old thread, so that all the info is kept in one place! :afro:
