oil additives??
« on: 08 September 2009, 11:00 »
hey all, thought this was a fairly generic question so best in here!
are there any oil additives that can be used for cars that like to use their oil lol, im thinking its my valve stem seals/piston rings on their way out but just to see if i can make them last as i cant affor 600 quid plus for a rebuild :)
i am running 20/50 in my mk3 8v gti which made it alot better but its still throwing it out the zorst, lol.
cheers

You could try wynn's engine stop leak. Depends how far it is gone, probably won't make any difference.

never had an engine get that bad,  it'smore than likely valve stem seals / guides as thats what goes on vw engines . snake oil won't fix that

really just buy another engine cheep and swap it over
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Burning oil will lead to high HC emissions.

if it does fail what are my options??
rebuild/replace?
i mean it only smokes when its hot - or it sits idling alot??
also i have 20/50 in it as advised by a mechanic, but i think it should have 10/40 -
if i changed the oil just before would that help me??
tbh - i knew it wasnt good but wasnt overly bothered as i may be vr6ing it in a efw years, then it dawned on my that it may fail emmissions :(
any helpis apreciated as im a bit paniced now, lol!!
