Hello all
Just bought my first mk3 GTI after owning 4 mk1's in GL and Driver specs. The funny thing was i always wanted a black mk3 3-door driver cus i couldn't insure a gti at the time. So with them being quite rare i bought a green mk1 gl 5-door to drive me to look at mk3's but fell in love with that and forgot about the mk3.
After selling my last mk1 driver i bought a vectra!!! for £500 cus i was skint and was driving round in that for a year, dreaming of getting my first gti. When my mate offered me a grand for it i snapped his hand off and had a look around for the best value GTI i could find, and of course the mk3 fitted the bill.
I've bought a P reg metallic black anniversary edition with electric sunroof (i read the sunroof and paint were optional extras) it has 162k on the clock but has had uprated lowered suspension, drilled brakes and green stuff pads, cat back oval exhaust, new clutch and gearbox and cammed with 11m mot and 5m tax. i took it to my mechanic friend who said it was a "minter". I polished it at the weekend and its come up and treat and drives like new and the anniversary extras are all on there. The engine bay is clean and the oil is silky as well so i'm well chuffed with it.
I've sourced 4 new bbs rx2 alloys that have been refurbished and never been on a car since and wrapped then in falken rubber all round, a new steering wheel as the red stitched one is a bit of a state so don't want it to get worse, as i'll be selling it with the car eventually. Been to vw to get a new skirt as it was rusty and broke through the plastic and apart from that the car is like brand new. So i'll be keeping it pretty standard. Its come with chrystal mk4 lights, side repeaters and fogs which i didn't like at first but have grown on me keeping it smoked at the back.
i will put some photos up if someone lets me know how its done, in the mean time, i'll keep enjoying my new motor and polishing it on a weekly basis, it was going to keep me going til i find the right mk1 gti, but i think i'll keep the mk3 and buy a mk1 just for weekends.
Cheers for reading, Lee
